In his studio in the heart of Vienna, the young sculptor and silversmith, Heinrich Prinz Reuss, devotes himself to an extraordinary theme. He fashions miniature sculptures of animals out of sterling silver. These are inspired by intense living with and in the nature as well as in deep study of animal life. As early as the nineteen sixties, the artist’s father, a well-known scientist and biologist, was involved in the founding of several wild life parks in Austria through which Heinrich Prinz Reuss developed this passion to details in natural life in studying the animals and their movement, developing his skills. Each single miniature animal sculpture he makes is a separately-crafted, unique specimen and consequently an unmistakable representative of its kind. The artist uses rubies, sapphires and emeralds to highlight the eyes and allocates his miniature sculptures movable limbs rather unconventionally, so as to emphasize the animals’ liveliness.
